We continue to interact within a digital environment that has contributed to the world’s proficiency at telling stories that deny God. Recent Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) developments make technological “advances” seem inevitable. Perhaps they are. As such, Christians should be aware of technologies such as A.I. and be informed before adopting A.I. models, the metaverse, social media, and other digital technologies.

This guide is intended to provide some basic information about A.I., as well as some frameworks to assist you in thinking about technology and A.I. It begins with a brief discussion of Christian resistance, which is necessary as we refuse to be formed into the image of anything other than Christ.

James Spencer earned his PhD in Theological Studies from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, IL. He is the author of Useful to God: Eight Lessons from the Life of D. L. Moody and Thinking Christian: Essays on Testimony, Accountability, and the Christian Mind and Trajectories: A Gospel-Centered Introduction to Old Testament Theology. James serves as faculty chair at Right On Mission where he teaches courses such as Developing a Christian Mind, Secular Ideologies, Cultural Maturity, and Interpreting Scripture. He currently serves as president of the D. L. Moody Center in Northfield, MA, and leads The Shine Bright Project.
